Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my child needs therapy?

Here are questions to ask yourself that may help in answering if your child needs therapy:

  • Does your child struggle emotionally or behaviorally for most of their day (or most of the days over the course of the week)?
  • Do you wish your child’s life was easier for them emotionally?
  • Does your child have a hard time connecting with peers or forming relationships with others?
  • Does your child exhibit behaviors that you feel they should have grown out of or seem extreme, given a situation?
  • Do you struggle to parent your child on most days? Do you feel lost, confused, or alone in your parenting?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, seeking therapeutic support for your child may be an appropriate next step.

What ages do you work with?

We work with children from infancy to age 18.

What is your intake process?
  1. Initial consultation: During an initial 20–30 minute consultation call we will discuss the support you’re looking for and if our practice could be a good fit. If we agree to begin working together, we will get back to you within 48 hours to coordinate a weekly therapy time and introduce you to your therapist. You will also receive paperwork to complete.
  2. First parenting session: Your therapist will then reach out to you to schedule an initial parent meeting so you can share more about your child and family, review the developmental history form you complete, and get answers to any questions.
  3. Therapy begins: Your therapist will spend some initial therapy sessions getting to know your child and developing a rapport with them before meeting with you again to discuss an individualized therapy plan for your child.

Please note this intake process may look a bit different for teenagers.

How long are therapy sessions?

Sessions are 45 minutes and take place weekly.

What types of therapy do you offer?

We offer individual, dyadic therapy (with one parent/caregiver), and family therapy.

Our therapists are trained in the following modalities:

Do parents/caregivers participate in sessions?

During your intake process you will discuss with your therapist if doing a modality that includes parents/caregivers and/or other family members is the best approach for your child. There may also be instances where individual therapy sessions, along with periodic dyadic or family therapy sessions, are recommended.

How often do I have to do parenting sessions?

Parenting sessions are a significant part of the child therapy process and we find, particularly for younger children, ongoing parenting sessions can have an impact on lessening behaviors and helping parents to feel confident in their approaches. You and your therapist can discuss during the intake process how often you want to meet. We recommend meeting for parenting sessions with your therapist at least monthly.

How long will my child need therapy for?

Each child’s rate of progress and goals are different so the time needed in therapy to show growth can vary. Meeting with your child’s therapist on an ongoing basis will ensure that you collaborate on how to best support your child and that progress is jointly monitored.

Do you accept insurance?

We are not in-network with any insurance companies. Many insurance plans have “Out of Network” benefits. We can provide superbills, which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You will be responsible for paying all session costs. If your plan does reimburse you, they will send you a check directly.
